A copyright is an intellectual property (music, text, art) that belongs to a copyright holder. Permission is required to reproduce copyrighted material.
Song Print provides digital downloads of text and melody editions of hymns and songs. A Song Print subscription does not constitute permission to reproduce this music. As a user of Song Print, you are required to hold the appropriate music license(s) if you plan to reproduce the downloaded file. Not all the available downloads from Song Print are covered by a single music license. LicenSingOnline.org covers the vast majority of the offerings, but you may also need a OneLicense.net license, a World Library Publications license, or a CCLI license if you select particular songs for reproduction. You may also seek permission to reproduce from individual publishers.
To reproduce a program you have created that contains music, you must have a license or specific permission from the individual copyright holder to do so. Again, the LicenSingOnline.org license covers the vast majority of the content in Song Print. A portion of your subscription fee is set aside to pay royalties to copyright holders of these materials.
Helpful Tips
- A license is issued with the understanding that it be used only by the church or individual that has purchased it. Reprints are not intended for resale.
- Churches, schools, and non-profit organizations are not exempt from copyright law.
- If you want to change any element of the text, music or image, you must have prior permission from the copyright holder.
